light+building was a springboard for BACnet

BACnet Conformance Testing Worldwide

Test laboratory working at capacity - BACnet control systems are the foundation for efficient buildings

Dortmund/Frankfurt, April 21, 2010 - Manufacturers who want their BACnet products to demonstrate compliance will need to hurry. The testing labs report a strong demand. In addition to the traditional test laboratory for the BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU), another lab in India has been accredited. It is under the supervision of BACnet International (BI). As jointly announced at light+building by BIG-EU President Volker Röhl and his American colleague, Andy McMillan, President of BI, BACnet continues to be the globally successful standard in building automation. This is apparent in the continually growing number of members and the large number of functional expansions.

In 2010 the BTL devices listing will be uniformly organized worldwide for the first time by BACnet International. To some extent the European market also requires European certification that meets the stringent European directives. "Both proofs of conformity help our BACnet products be successful - the target market decides," said Hans Symanczik, head of the BIG-EU marketing group.

The eye-catching joint BACnet booth in the middle of Hall 9.0 acted as magnet for visitors. The majority of the 22 exhibitors appeared to be quite satisfied under the large canopy with typical BACnet applications. There was talk about the results being better than at light+bulding in 2008. Manufacturers and planners see the ideal foundation for efficient buildings in BACnet control technology. BIG-EU Vice-President William O. Swan referred to the strict American LEED certificates and the high requirements for smart grids which are fulfilled by BACnet.

As more and more controllers, workstations and actuators are developed for BACnet communication, BIG-EU President Volker Röhl sees an increasing need for BACnet know-how from planners and integrators: "On 10 November we will close this gap with the second German BACnet Forum."
