Latest BACnet facts highlighted in Paris

130 trade experts discuss open building automation successes and chances at Forum

Dortmund/Paris, 11.03.2014 - The BACnet standard is fit for smart buildings in smart grids. At the BACnet Forum Paris held on 11th February, CEN/TC247 chairman Roland Ullmann announced an EN ISO 16484 upgrade - with expanded building automation functions for smart buildings. Seven years after the first French BACnet Forum, 130 building automation experts discussed the latest facts about BACnet in Paris again.

Jean Daniel Napar, the president of the French BACnet association, highlighted the sustainability of investments in the BACnet standard. Due to increasing demand, the worldwide number of vendor-IDs has practically doubled since the Forum in 2007.

Twice as many BACnet devices were certified last year alone, compared to the previous year. Assisted by a program for information, communication and training also the BACnet France Group gained strength. Thirteen top-class members have joined in total. They inform the French market via the BACnet France Journal, at exhibitions and in the AGILiCom training seminars about the practical uses of BACnet.

Volker Röhl, the president of the BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) reminded all about the origins of BACnet as ISO Standard 16484-5 which was launched 10 years ago. No-one could have foreseen that BACnet would spread so fast in building technology and now is a recognised cornerstone for reliable building operations.

BIG-EU advisory board member, Hans Symanczik praised the co-operation between the European und French groups. Those looking to get further involved in the development, standardization und certification are invited to visit the large BACnet booth at the light+building trade show in Frankfurt, Germany (30th March – 4th April) and the upcoming European BACnet Plugfest in Zug, Switzerland (21st – 23 May).

There is an increasing demand for BACnet-compliant components in tenders. The BACnet France members showed in lectures and during the accompanying exhibition, just how BACnet architectures pave the way ahead for dynamic optimization.

The BACnet Forum about the development and practical application of BACnet standards was the most extensive update held in recent times in Europe. It was made possible thanks to the kind support of Gold sponsors Distech Controls, Saia Burgess, Sauter, Siemens, the Silver sponsors Codra, Honeywell, Johnson Controls Kieback&Peter and the French association for building automation, ACR.
