BACnet standard expanded
Collective body of rules for manufacturer-independent building automation - BACnet Systems designed for the future
Dortmund, March 03, 2009 - The worldwide growing BACnet community has an expanded standard. Published at the turn of the year 2008/2009, "BACnet 2008" replaces the old standard version of 2004. The new version supports the cross-linking between buildings and energy providers. It enhances the manufacturer-independent cross-linking of building automation with new possibilities.
"BACnet doesn't stand still," says René Quirighetti, BIG-EU Advisory Board member and Chair of the working group technique. "New market requirements are covered, e.g. access control and energy optimization." And BACnet makes further process, he looks ahead. Additional BACnet proposals are ready for public review - lighting output, access control, XML.
The internationally assigned BACnet standards committee "SSPC 135" of the American ASHRAE presents the new BACnet standard in Chicago at the AHR Expo. The BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) was engaged in the development as well.
BACnet is the only open standard in building automation that is cooperatively developed by the American, Asian and European building automation industry. The Protocol for "Building Automation and Control Networks (BACnet)" enables devices and systems of different manufacturers to work together. This creates high-performance building systems that meet the new economic and ecological requirements.
One of the key factors for cross linking the buildings with the energy providers is the integration of load control. It enables to manage the energy supply by demand. Therewith peak loads in the supply net can be absorbed.
At first the new standard was published as ANSI/ASHRAE standard 135-2008. That the improvements will be integrated into the DIN EN ISO standard 6484-5 as well is considered certain in circles of experts.
The standard's dynamics seems without limits. More integration is being prepared: lighting control, enhanced access control, an addendum for the Japanese market, XML data format and an enhanced set of BACnet profiles and functions.
It is obvious: BACnet Systems designed for the future
