Press Release
BACnet controllers to be globally listed
BACnet users in Europe and the U.S. sign cooperative testing and listing
agreement
BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) and BACnet International have combined their BTL product listings. This creates a single global list of products with the BACnet BTL logo - the global sign of conformance to the BACnet standard ISO 16484-5.
BIG-EU and BI signed an agreement that governs the common specification of the listing. All listed products will be published on the BI website at www.bacnetinternational.org/btl/. The BIG-EU will also give an overview of products that are certified according to European standards on its website: www.big-eu.org.
The difference between the BTL logo and certificate
In anticipation of the strict European regulations on building efficiency, many European manufacturers have been certifying their products' BACnet conformity through accredited bodies since 2008 - in addition to the BTL listing. In contrast to the BTL logo, which is awarded by the BACnet Testing Laboratories (BTL), the certificates are issued only by independent authorities. The certification sets the highest standard for product testing in Europe. Users can thus be sure that the necessary functions are included and tested.
In addition, BIG-EU will also continue with its open catalog. This market
overview of BACnet products contains the self-declarations and datasheets
of manufacturers - regardless of testing, listings and certificates.
Online at www.big-eu.org/catalog/index.php.
"BACnet is the preferred choice for integrated building systems that control energy costs as well as for sustainable commercial and institutional facilities", explains Volker Röhl, the BIG-EU president. "This is why it is so important that on the one hand we have uniformly designed the BTL listing across all countries, and on the other hand with certification we provide a solution that meets the highest European standards." Now manufacturers must decide whether their products will need proof of conformity for one or the other target markets, or even for both target markets.
With the agreement for common listing and the consideration for European
requirements the European and American "BACneteers" are able to
strengthen their partnership. Andy McMillan, president of BI, sums it up:
"If we compare our previous agreements with the new agreement, our relationship,
and even the value of the BACnet protocol, has without a doubt been strengthened."
