Open Communication Tests for Smart Buildings at Munich Airport

BACnet® Plugfest 2019 to be held in a state of the art test environment

Dortmund/Munich, January 24th, 2019. – Never before have open communication tests for interoperable building automation taken place in such an environment. For software developers and product managers from the smart building industry, the Information Security Hub (ISH) at Munich Airport from May 22–24 will be a meeting place for participants from all over the globe. From the large number of tests at the BACnet Plugfest 2019, investments in the BACnet standard will be secured from a wide range of manufacturers.

The 13th Plugfest of the BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) is ideally equipped to further optimize interoperability in building systems. "Our professional test and practice environment offers the perfect opportunity to test new products and services under realistic conditions," explains Marc Lindike, Head of Cyber Defence and ISH at Munich Airport.

Manufacturers from all over the world will be testing their latest BACnet developments and software versions to ensure that commissioning on construction sites runs smoothly during the three days of testing. During this time, they will also be able to exchange insider knowledge. Members of the BACnet standardization committee, the ASHRAE SSPC-135, will be on site with first-hand information. Networking opportunities will be numerous; partly in pairing sessions, partly in round tables. In addition, short talks will shed light on the latest development topics.

Added value by additional trainings and events

This year's Plugfest offers further added value. Participants are invited to leave their components permanently at ISH and thus become members of the ISH community. By being involved in trainings and events at ISH or by conducting their own tests with existing ISH components and partners, bridges can be built between existing groups, and each participant benefits from looking outside the box.

Leading host of this year's Plugfest is MBS, Germany. The software specialist for industrial and building automation from Krefeld has been supporting the BIG-EU as an active member for the past 20 years. Nils-Gunnar Fritz, CEO of MBS GmbH and BIG-EU board member, expects more applications than ever before, not only from Europe, but also from the rest of the world: "Through our cooperation with the Information Security Hub as host on site, we are able to offer the perfect location to participants."

Ultramodern test and practice environment

With the ISH, Munich Airport has been offering an ultra-modern test and practice environment for IT security since 2018. Companies, authorities and other institutions can train and educate security experts for their organization as well as jointly put future technologies and procedures through their paces. More Information can be found on the BIG EU website at www.infosec-hub.de.

The neutral environment creates trust between the participants who are competitors in the marketplace. Everyone benefits equally from the results of the BACnet Plugfest 2019 in Munich – investors, builders, operators and the manufacturers themselves.
