18th BACnet Plugfest in Lisbon: Successful International Testing Event Hosted by BACnet Interest Group Europe

Aachen, May 21, 2025 – From May 14 to 16, 2025, the 18th BACnet Plugfest organized by the BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) took place in Lisbon. This year, 56 participants from 27 companies came together, forming 29 teams with one shared goal: testing the interoperability and robustness of their BACnet products.

Over three intensive days, devices were connected and evaluated in various configurations. A key focus was on BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC), the new secure communication layer, which was tested extensively in multiple implementations. Simulated stress conditions, such as heavy data traffic and complex network scenarios, were used to challenge the systems under near-real-world circumstances.

Participants traveled from across Europe, as well as from countries like Australia and India – highlighting the global importance and reach of the BACnet community. The collaborative atmosphere, joint test scenarios, and exchange of technical insights made the Plugfest a valuable event for everyone involved.

The outcome: a thoroughly successful event with direct benefits for product development. Insights gained during the Plugfest will immediately contribute to improving BACnet implementations.

The BACnet Interest Group Europe is already preparing for the next Plugfest, scheduled for spring 2026 – once again aiming to actively shape the future of interoperable building automation.
