The BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) celebrated a highly successful participation at this year’s Smart Buildings Show 2025, held 15-16 October at ExCeL London.
Together with KNX UK and the EnOcean Alliance, BIG-EU co-hosted the Building Automation Pavilion, a central meeting point for visitors seeking real-world solutions and open, interoperable technologies for intelligent and sustainable buildings.
Throughout the event, the pavilion attracted strong interest from professionals across the building automation sector. The combination of live demonstrations, expert discussions, and collaborative showcases highlighted how open protocols such as BACnet, KNX, and EnOcean complement each other to create flexible, energy-efficient systems that evolve with technology and regulatory changes.
A particular highlight was the panel discussion titled “Open Protocols – The Key to Sustainability”, featuring Iain Gordon (KNX UK), Graham Martin (EnOcean Alliance), and Thomas Kurowski (BACnet Interest Group Europe).
Moderated within the Controls & Networks Theatre, the session explored how open communication standards can work seamlessly together to deliver future-ready, interoperable building solutions – enabling energy savings and long-term adaptability instead of costly system replacements.
The lively exchange drew a large audience and demonstrated the industry’s clear demand for open, vendor-independent systems. The joint presentation by BIG-EU, KNX UK, and the EnOcean Alliance underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving smarter, more sustainable buildings.
With strong visitor engagement, valuable new contacts, and high visibility for the BACnet standard, the Smart Buildings Show 2025 once again proved to be an outstanding platform for advancing interoperability and innovation in building automation.
BIG-EU thanks all partners and participants for their contribution to this success and looks forward to continuing the dialogue at future events.
