The BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) successfully hosted the BACnet Plugfest 2026 in Prague, bringing together more than 28 companies and 28 testing teams from across Europe, as well as participants from Australia and India.
Over three intensive days, developers, engineers, and BACnet experts collaborated to test interoperability, exchange knowledge, and advance the implementation of BACnet technologies across manufacturers and regions.
A major focus of this year’s Plugfest was BACnet/SC (BACnet Secure Connect). Participants concentrated on topics such as certificate management, certificate exchange, and the establishment of secure direct connections between devices and systems. As BACnet/SC continues to gain importance in modern building automation networks, the event provided an ideal environment to validate implementations and address practical challenges in a collaborative setting.
For the first time, BIG-EU introduced a dedicated BACnet/SC Network Table alongside the traditional manufacturer pairings. This extended test environment enabled participants to evaluate larger BACnet/SC network structures involving multiple devices and vendors simultaneously, creating valuable opportunities for real-world interoperability testing.
In addition to BACnet/SC, the Plugfest also covered the established communication technologies BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP, ensuring comprehensive testing across the BACnet ecosystem.
Beyond the technical sessions, the event once again highlighted the value of personal interaction, open discussion, and international collaboration. The combination of intensive testing, knowledge sharing, and social networking created the unique Plugfest spirit that has become a hallmark of the BACnet community.
The successful event once again demonstrated the importance of cooperation and interoperability in the continued evolution of BACnet and fully reflected the BIG-EU mission:
Networking the BACnet Standard in Europe.
